The FIRST ever collaborative graphic novel with the Paterson Police Department. Inspired by true events from story creator Officer Jordan Henry and designed by Mr. Brian Sledge, Teacher of Graphic Design at Eastside High School,
Once, the city was called Madriel—a place of light, creativity, and unity, where neighborhoods thrived on community and promise. But that brightness was shattered when a broken-hearted boy’s pain reshaped the world. Orphaned by gang violence, consumed with hate, he wished for power over the very gangs that destroyed his family. His grief cracked the skies, and at 3:00 PM every day, light died. Shadows stretched, and the world entered the Shadowmark, where monsters were born!
The city’s police force, the MWPD, rose to confront the darkness—not to kill the monsters, but to save the kids trapped inside them. Officers like Michael Johnson, himself a former monster redeemed, patrol the streets with weapons of light and faith in something greater than themselves. Every battle is a rescue. Every saved child is a soul pulled back from the abyss.
And in the middle of it all, a fragile truth remains: when monsters emerge, Miracle Waterpours—not rain, but mercy—holy water, a sign that hope has not left the city!
This is the world of MAD CITY—a gritty, faith-fueled tale of gangs, shadows, and redemption. A city condemned by one boy’s broken heart…yet still fighting to reclaim the light it once held!
* All proceeds from the sale of this graphic novel will go towards the continuation of the publishing of student-created graphic novels and comic books!
