New Eastside High School mascot...O.G. Spookey!
New EHS Mascot
"O.G. (Original Ghost) Spooky started as an idea created with Eastside High School’s athletic Supervisor. While the school had long embraced the Eastside Ghost logo, I don't believe they ever truly had a physical mascot. When the athletic Supervisor asked me to design a poster featuring a mascot concept, I developed both an image and a backstory—a student figure who embodied what I believed the ‘Ghost’ stood for!"
"Not long after, I was told that the poster had been selected as a winner in a national competition for the best high school mascot. As part of the final round, I needed to create promotional materials that captured the spirit of the design. That challenge inspired me to take the idea even further—transforming O.G. Spookey’s story into a graphic novel that could carry the legend forward and continue to inspire. From there, the final step involved finding the student who would become the FIRST official O.G. Spookey!

While not based on a true story, The Legend of O.G. Spookey captures the enduring spirit of resilience, unity, and potential within the halls of
Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ.
O.G. Spookey is a shape-shifting presence—never tied to one face, one grade, one background, or one identity. Instead, O.G. Spookey lives on through any student who dares to strive for their very best while
lifting others up along the way.
This legend is sustainable because O.G. Spookey can be anyone. He can be a freshman finding their voice, a senior chasing a dream, or a quiet student offering encouragement to a struggling classmate. The form changes, but the heart remains the same…a symbol of hope, support, and determination.
Through this mascot, Eastside High celebrates a living legacy, where every generation of students has the chance to carry the torch, embody the values of O.G. Spookey, and inspire others to keep pushing forward.
At Eastside, the story never ends—because O.G. Spookey represents the embodiment of who you become when you choose to rise.
* All proceeds from the sale of this award-winning graphic novel will go towards the continuation of the publishing of student-created graphic novels and comic books!
